We very much appreciate how generous the public is in their contributions to the museum and we want to ensure the museum has a collection that continues to show Uttoxeter life through the ages.
However, we cannot accept any item for the museum collection, unless we go through strict procedures, which all museums must follow.
These checks include making sure we are legally allowed to have the item. We also must check that the item is safe to keep in the museum and for our staff to handle. As Redfern’s Cottage, Museum of Uttoxeter Life, is a very small museum, we need to check if we have space to store the item, whether it needs specialist care and storage, or if the item requires specialist repair and how much this would cost.
If items are left at the museum before these checks are done, we will be legally unable to keep them and the museum may have no option but to dispose of the item, including destroying it if necessary.
If you are interested in donating an item, then please contact us using the contact form and give a brief description of the item you want to donate. The curator of the museum will be in touch within 14 days to discuss your item(s).
